It’s thanks to the perks of modern technology that as I touched down in Rome’s Ciampino airport I was hearing the last notes of the credit sequence of ‘Roman Holiday’, Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peck’s sweet postcard of the city. Wandering ’round the streets of Rome one feels like stepping into the past. Or into a novel. Foamy cappuccino in hand, and carefully stepping over the intricate chiaroscuro patterns drawn onto the cobblestones by the sun rays as they peek over the rooftops, one wanders. Turn right onto this little alley, find a piazza. Carry on, and there’s a precious little fountain in the corner. The crowds somehow seem to thicken and oh! one has stumbled upon the Fontana di Trevi.
